Douglas Borough Council – Recycling Wagon visits Nursery

On Thursday 20th of July Nick Barnes and Jeanette Edwards from Douglas Borough Council brought the Recycling Wagon, Rocky, to visit Nursery.  The Children in Preschool learnt why it is important to recycle our rubbish, watching a short video on what happens to the Islands recycled waste.  They went out to the wagon and sorted all the rubbish we had collected, putting it into ‘Rocky’s’ bucket.  ‘Rocky’ then showed the children what happens to the rubbish putting into another big container to be taken back to the plant to be recycled.

There were some very interesting questions that came out of the visit from “what happens to the rubbish once its turned into a bale” to “how do you get it to England and does it come back again”.  One of the children even said “bale that is what you put hay in but animals cannot eat plastic?” amazing that they make the comparison and process information.

All of the children were enthusiastic, listening attentively to the discussion and instructions.  So expect them to come home and tell you all what to do with your rubbish.

If you don’t have any recycling buckets or need replacements Nick and Jeanette asked me to include a link to their website where provision can be made and any questions asked.

It just remains for all the staff and children to say Thank you to Nick and Jeanette for coming in and happy recycling everyone.
