World Book Day

On Thursday 1st March 2018, despite the weather the Staff and Children at Victoria House Nursery joined in the UK’s celebration of world book day collecting money for world book aid who support the provision of books in public libraries, schools universities, hospitals, prisons and refugee camps. Reading is so important for children and adults in so many ways, from developing an imagination to learning about other cultures and societies, past and present. The written word can enrich, improve and change lives and everyone in the world should have access to Literature. Each year Book Aid International raises money to send thousands of books to communities where people have few or no books to read. Its a worth while cause which is great fun to celebrate and support.

Reading a physical book is a magical experience, despite your age; but for early years development books are a source of joy and amazement which inspires imagination and endless possibilities of an individual capabilities.  A book is a source of information stimulating curiosity to know more and seek out experiences that they read about.  Though it could be said the most precious part of reading a book is reading to others supporting children’s Personal, Social and Emotional development.  To listen to a story involves a child’s interest and desire to hear the words, their willingness to be read to and the skill to pay attention to the words, understanding their meaning.  The benefits of books and their importance to child development are endless so what better way to celebrate this and support a good course than to take part in World Book Day.

At Victoria House Nursery we have had mischief caused by the 2 Cats in the hats with their partners in ‘fun’ Things 1, 2, 3 & 4. Our Witch at nursery could not fit much more on the broom with her, though she did try. The 2 resident Gruffalo’s have been evading the mouse who wants to make them into Gruffalo pie and our Alice in Wonderland’s have been going on a bear hunt with the help of superman, Zog x2 and many more. Wally and Percy the Park Keeper have had  a great time keeping all the fun running smoothly. Thank you for joining in with the fun.
